Hickory International is a family owned and operated dealership. The company was started in 1979 by Al Thackston, who had 22 years of experience with International Harvester when he purchased this company owned store. At that time, International Harvester at this store sold International Trucks, Farm Equipment, Industrial Equipment as well as Lawn & Garden, all under the International Harvester umbrella. As times changed, International Harvester sold the farm equipment division to Case, the industrial equipment to Dresser, and the Lawn & Garden to Cub Cadet.
Al Thackston is still active in the business but turned the daily operations over to his son, Brent Thackston, in 1995. Hickory International is now in its second generation of operation and has been serving Harford, Cecil and Baltimore Counties for over three decades.
In 1999, Hickory International opened a second store in Towson to better serve the commercial mowing market. This store is located off of Joppa Road, and operates under the name of Baltimore Turf Equipment. The Towson location is open for parts and also sells commercial mowing equipment.
Our service department is located at the Bel Air location, and sports 8 service bays for Lawn and Garden, as well as 10 additional bays for truck repair and inspection.
