The dump truck application is unique because it requires both on and off road performance. Dump trucks under 26,000 lbs GVW usually do not require much variation from the average truck. Above 26,000 lbs it becomes more important to make sure that the truck is speced with cab and chassis features that are designed to handle the demands of heavy loads and off highway terrain. Features such as extra ground clearance, walking beam suspensions, and clean cab-to-axle (CA) are often required. Medium service dumps are classified as 25,000 lb GVW and under. They typically have 8-10 foot dump bodies and are not subject to overly rugged terrain.
